In general, benchmark scores are comparable across different versions of a specific test. We aim to ensure that benchmark scores remain comparable and relevant over the lifetime of the benchmark and its target hardware.

UL benchmarks have an overall application version number that applies to the software as a whole, and individual benchmark version numbersthat apply to individual tests. You can see the installed version numbers on the Options screen in our benchmarks. Most of our benchmarks will prompt you when a new version is available.

We use the major.minor.build number format for all our benchmark products.

  • The major version number indicates a major release with significant content, design, or compatibility changes.
  • The minor version number indicates a smaller change such as bug fixes and cosmetic changes that do not affect scores.
  • The build number identifies a specific release version of the application.

Application version number

The application version number applies to the software as a whole, for example, PCMark 10 version 2.0.2115. It changes often as we update our applications to add new features and ensure compatibility with the latest hardware. We recommend using the latest version of the application.

Benchmark version number

A benchmark version number is specific to a test, for example, 3DMark Time Spy 1.1, (the build number is not shown). Benchmark version numbers change rarely and only when absolutely necessary to accommodate changes in third-party applications or bug fixes.

Comparing benchmark scores across versions

We guarantees that UL benchmark results are comparable across application versions provided that the major digit of the benchmark version number is the same as illustrated in the examples below.
